How it works

How to blur faces in a video in 3 steps

Step 1

Upload your video

MP4, MOV or WebM from your phone, camera, dashcam or screen recorder.

Step 2

Faces are found and tracked

Every face is detected and followed as it moves. Pick anyone who should stay clear — you, a host, an interview guest.

Step 3

Check and download

Play the preview, choose blur, pixelate or a black box, then download the finished MP4 with the original sound.

Why FaceBlur

Automatic face blur for real videos

Built for vloggers, journalists, documentary makers, dashcam owners and anyone sharing footage of people who did not agree to be shown.

Blur everyone except the people you pick

A documentary keeps the interviewee clear, an interview keeps host and guest, a vlog keeps you. Tap as many faces as you need.

Follows moving faces

Faces are tracked between frames, so the blur stays on people who walk, turn or move through the shot.

Faces and license plates in one pass

Dashcam, Insta360 and street footage often need both. Cloud mode will cover both in one export (coming soon).

Private by design

Photos and Private mode videos never leave your browser. We detect where faces are, never who they are, and keep no face data.

Minutes, not hours

Blurring by hand takes hours per video. Here the work is automatic; you only check the result.

Original quality and sound

Same resolution and frame rate as your video, the sound kept, and no watermark.

FAQ

Face blur — FAQ

How do I blur faces in a video?+

Open the video above. FaceBlur finds every face and tracks it through the clip. Tap the faces that should stay clear, choose blur, pixelate or a black box, check the preview and press Blur & download to save the MP4.

Can I keep my own face clear and blur everyone else?+

Yes. Every detected face appears as a thumbnail. Tap one person or several — for example the interviewer and the interviewee — and everyone else is blurred. After a camera cut the same person may appear as a new thumbnail; tap that one too.

Is FaceBlur free?+

Yes, today. Blurring photos and exporting videos in Private mode run in your browser, are free and need no sign-up. Cloud mode, with stronger detection and license plates, will use paid credits. It is not open yet, and the prices on the pricing page are a preview.

How much does it cost to blur a video?+

Private mode is free. Cloud mode is planned at about $0.19 to $0.50 per minute of video depending on the plan: 1 minute of 1080p video uses 6 credits, billed per started 10 seconds, and 4K counts four times. You will always see the exact credits before you confirm.

Does it blur license plates too?+

Not yet. License plate blur is planned for Cloud mode, so faces and plates can be covered in one pass. Private mode covers faces only.

Will it miss any faces?+

Automatic detection can miss very small, side-on, blurry or partly hidden faces. Always play the preview before you publish. If a face is missed, tell us at support@faceblur.org.

What happens to my video?+

In Private mode it never leaves your device: scanning, blurring and the MP4 export all run in your browser. Cloud mode will upload the video to our servers; it is not open yet, and before it opens we will publish how long uploads are kept. Either way we detect where faces are; we do not identify people or keep face data.

Which video formats and lengths are supported?+

MP4, MOV and WebM. Private mode picks the people to keep from the first 10 minutes and works best on clips of a few minutes, because the whole result is held in your browser’s memory. A 1-minute 1080p clip takes about a minute on a recent laptop; phones and older computers are slower.
